A Personal Introduction for International Leaders and Board Members
I am writing to express my formal interest in the Independent Board Director mandate centred on global markets, international expansion, and geopolitical strategy. I am writing to express my formal interest in the Independent Board Director mandate centred on global markets, international expansion, and geopolitical strategy.
My background sits at the intersection the brief describes.
International commercial judgment, cross-cultural intelligence, relationship architecture, and the discipline to distinguish durable expansion from short-term market attraction. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute at board level.
Where I have operated.
Over twenty-five years, I have built and advised international ventures across Europe, the Gulf, Asia, and emerging markets. My work has centred on the European Union, Gulf Cooperation Council, and Asian corridor, precisely the geography this mandate prioritises. I have lived and worked in Moscow, Dubai, and across Western Europe, and I have structured commercial relationships in environments where trust, reputation, and institutional credibility determine whether a market entry succeeds or fails.
What I bring to the board.
My most substantial single mandate was a €200 million cross-border industrial transaction, which I structured and advised from production capital through risk-mitigation architecture to multi-party commercial alignment. I architected a multi-party industrial collaboration framework across Europe, the Gulf, and Asia, engaging multinational industrial participants in automotive, energy, and advanced manufacturing. While serving as strategic representative for Blackstone Group LLC in Dubai, I structured five-year foundational agreements with Gulf nations and strengthened European-Emirati joint ventures in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
How I approach the board's five most important questions.
Where should the organisation compete?
Market attractiveness on paper is not the same as a market where an organisation can build sustainable relationships. I assess commercial ecosystems, institutional environments, legal architecture, and relationship infrastructure before recommending capital deployment.
How should it enter?
Through sequencing rather than simultaneity. I favour feasibility assessment before commitment, and I have seen too many expansions fail because readiness was assumed rather than established.
Who should it partner with?
Partners are chosen for alignment of interest over time, not for the transaction in front of them. I have built joint ventures and institutional relationships across the Gulf and Europe with a horizon of five to ten years, not one deal cycle.
Which risks should it accept?
Geopolitical and commercial risk must be distinguished from temporary market disruption. I have structured redundant escrow frameworks and secondary finance instruments specifically to de-risk cross-border production and export, and I apply the same discipline to board-level capital allocation.
How can expansion create durable value?
By refusing shortcuts. Durable international positioning is built on relationship architecture, governance, and disciplined patience, not on speed of entry.
Languages and mobility.
I work professionally in English, Dutch, and German, with conversational capability in Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, and Danish. I am available for regular board engagement across Singapore, Dubai, Moscow, Brussels, Zurich, and Asian markets.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the mandate in greater detail once the appropriate confidentiality arrangements are in place. I am available at your convenience.
With kindest regards,
Alexander Wilhelm van der Kemp
